Matcha is a very versatile tea and can be made numerous ways, from the traditional method to a creamy latte and even as a refreshing smoothie. Matcha can be drunk hot or cold, blended whisked or stirred. You can even eat Matcha in your food so really the question is, “What can’t you do with Matcha?”.
Ancient Method: The first method is simple and strong and has been followed by monks for centuries. For those new to Matcha this may not be the best way to try Matcha unless you love the taste of pure Matcha green tea…
1. Scoop Matcha tea powder into a bowl or cup (1/2 tsp per 3-4oz) (1/2 tsp = 1gram)
2. Add a small amount of hot liquid, and using the back of a spoon stir to make a smooth, green paste.
3. Stir or whisk. And drink.
The Matcha Latte: The 2nd method involves using the plain organic Matcha and combining it with sweetener and milk to create a creamier and less strong tasting Matcha latte…
1. Put 1/2 to 1 tsp to 8 or 12 oz of Liquid. Our preference is 1/2 water and 1/2 Almond or coconut Milk.
2. Stir vigorously with Whisk.
3. Add 3-4 drops of Stevia anda few dashes of vanilla extract and cinnamon.
4. Stir or Froth and Enjoy!
Flavored Matcha Latte : This is the most simple and delicious latte to prepare and uses the flavored Got Matcha tea blends including the Matcha Chai, Pumpkin Spice and Matcha Cacao…
1. To a sauce pan add½-1 Tbsp of your flavor of choice with 8-12 ounces of liquid (try 2/3 coconut, almond or hemp milk to 1/3 water).
2. Stir with a whisk over medium heat until the latte is hot enough. Pour into a mug and enjoy.
1. Smoothie: Add ¼-1tsp to a fruit smoothie or even a protein shake to add energy to your meal. With this version you barely taste the Matcha.
2. In a Shaker cup: This is a convenient and refreshing way to drink your Matcha on the go. In a shaker cup with a lid or even a water bottle add1 serving of plain Matcha or one of the flavored blends with part almond or coconut milk and part coconut water or water. If using the plain Matcha you will need to add sweetener but if using a flavored blend simply shake with the liquids.
Storing Your Matcha Tea
Matcha tea is extremely sensitive to light and heat. The delicate, young tea leaves are ground as soon as they are picked in Japan. Once ground, this fresh Matcha tea powder is vacuum packed. Once opened and exposed to light/air/heat, the Matcha tea powder will begin to oxidize rapidly, so we suggest keeping your Matcha in the refrigerator.
